Windward House
24 Jackson St. - Cape May, NJ
Like many of the inns of Cape May, the Windward House was built as the summer home for a successful
Philadelphia attorney. Also like most of these homes, it became a roomong house in t he 1940's.
When it was a private residence, the rooms on the third floor were the servant's quarters, inhabited by a staff of
female Irish immigrants. Over the years it has become clear that one of them never left.
The ghost has been described as happy and content by all who have experienced her. The haunted room
is now known as the Wicker Room. The spirit of this woamn has been sensed by many guests, but only
one guest has ever reported seeing her. The woman was staying in the wicker room. She opened the door and saw
the hazy image of a young woman sitting on the edge of her bed.
