The Washington Inn
Cape May, NJ
This is another great Inn in Cape May that was originally a private residence.
It was built in the 1840's, but has gone through many architectural changes since it was
first erected. In 1940 it went into service as an inn, run by Martha Hand and her daughter.
Most of the activity seems to be focused around the central entrance to the inn. Originally, there was
a staircase inside the entrance that went up to the second floor. That has been removed. It is in this area
that a woman's voice is heard. She is most often heard calling the name of whomever is listening at the time.
