Wakefield Tower
Tower of London - London, England
Henry VI was imprisoned here and then murdered as he knelt at his altar on May 21, 1471.
Legend holds that the weilder of the knife that struck the numerous blows that left Henry
"full of deadly holes" was none other than the infamous Richard III (then Duke of Gloucester).
On the anniversary of the murder, around midnight, the pale and pitiful spirit of Henry VI appears and then
paces the room before fading away till the next anniversary.
The tower itself was built in the 13th century and the Crown Jewels were kept here from 1870 to 1967.
The upper floor used to have royal apartments, but these were destroyed by Cromwell. Now the upper floor
contains the chamber you see in the above photo.
