Thorn and Rose
822 Stockton Avenue - Cape May, NJ
The Thorn and Rose was extensively renovated in the early 1990's. During this time, doors
opened and closed on their own and inexplicable sounds were heard. Shortly after they opened for business,
the current owners were awakened in the middle of the night by a guest banging on their door.
The woman wanted to complain that there was aghost in her room.
When they returned to the room, the owner noticed that the room was very cold, but she didn't see
anything. The woman insisted there was a woman there, and she was speaking French.
Suddenly the owner's young son enetered the room. As his mother tried to assure him that everything
was all right, he began speaking in French! She quickly left the room and put her son to bed. In the morning he had no recolelction of the
incidents of the night before.
The woman who complained of the ghost now wanted to contact the spirit, so she held an impromptu seance.
She reported that there were three spirits, a small child and two sisters.
They then reported that one of the ghosts had been killed on the other side of the home by someone close
to them. The ghosts also expressed their desire to communicate with the current owner.
After that, the activity seemed to increase. The sounds of someone playing jacks on the floor could be
heard at all hours of the night. Other times they would hear a squeaky bicycle or wagon wheel.
The sounds only seemed to occur when the fire whistle went off.
Another psychic visited and informed them that the inn, particularly one room, was haunted by a little
boy with a wagon and a ball. She also reported that the boy was afraid of fire.
Nothing threatening has ever occured, as is the case with most hauntings. If you want to check out this
haunting for yourself, the reported center of it is Room 2.
