Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

7000 Hollywood Blvd.

There are two ghost stories at this hotel involving two celebrities, Marilyn Monroe and Montgomery Clift.

Montgomery Clift stayed at the hotel for three months while rehearsing his role for the movie "From Here to Eternity" in 1953. It is believed to be he who haunts room #928 of the 9th floor of the hotel, playing his trumpet and pacing while reciting his lines. This phenomena has been experienced by staff and guests at the hotel.

The ghost of Marilyn Monroe has been reported several times in a full-length mirror, which was originally located in her poolside Suite 1200, where Marilyn often stayed. The mirror in which her image supposedly appears is now located across from the hotel shop. When I visted the hotel, I asked about the mirror and the staffperson told me that she herself has never felt comfortable around it and she often gets a chill when standing near it. Oddly, she reported that this chill is never reported by male staff, only female! I visited the mirror a couple times during my stay, and although I didn't see Marilyn, at my last visit I went right up to the mirror and as I stood there. I began to feel a coldness that seemed to come from the bottom of the mirror and was slowly working its way up my legs from my ankles. It so unnerved me that I had to sit down and did not want to see the mirror again.

The staff memebr that showed us the mirror also mentioned that strange noises and cold spots have been reported in the Blossom Ballroom. This is where the very first Academy Awards ceremony was held. The cold spot that has been encountered is usually described as a circle about 30 inches in diameter and about 10 degrees colder than the rest of the ballroom. Unfortunately, this room was booked for events during our stay, but we were allowed to look down into it from the balcony above.

There is also a very gruesome ghost that haunts one of the cabana type rooms across the pool from the bar. It is the spirit of a man who appears to guests staying there ... with a gaping wound in his throat!
