Peter Shields Inn

1301 Beach Drive - Cape May, NJ

Peter Shields was a real estate developer who planned to help turn Cape May into the new Newport. Things did not work out as planned. The family packed up and left in 1912. His stately home went through several incarnations - one as the Cape May Tuna Club, a transcendental meditation center, a gambling club, and a brothel. The building was purchased by a successful chef in 1989 and became the Peter Sheilds Inn.
Some people claim Peter Shields never left his home in Cape May. Lighst have gone off inexplicably. The ghost apparently has an eye for the ladies. He has been sighted most often in the hall by the ladies room. Many guests have reported feeling the presence as soon as they enter the building.
