The Brighton Pavilion

Brighton, England

This is Brighton's Pavilion, built by George IV when he was Prince Regent. Later, it was sold to the town by Queen Victoria.

There are various underground passages linking the Pavilion with the building that used to be the stables. The king's ghost has been seen walking through these underground passages.

There is another ghost reported at the Pavilion. It is that of Martha Gunn, the famous bathing woman of Brighton. She is seen in the kitchens. During her lifetime she frequented this place, so it is assumed that that is her reason for staying on after her death.

When I visited the pavilion, I was not really aware of any real ghostly activity, but visitors are not allowed in the kitchens or the underground passages. Alos, you are not allowed to take photos of the interior, so I had little hope of capturing any spirits on film. We took many photos outside around the Pavilion, as the gardens are, like most gardens in England, breathtakingly beautiful! In one of our photos, we got a surprise. This was taken with a regular 35 mm camera, no flash, 400 speed film.
