Mount Pleasant Mansion
Fairmount Park
Mount Pleasant was built as the country residence of a successful Scottish sea captain (some say pirate) John Macpherson.
In 1775, John Adams described it as "the most elegant seat in PA". Pirate or no, he was quite respected among our
founding fathers...During his seafaring days, Captain Macpherson had his arm shot off. Visitors to the mansion have reported seeing
the figure of a man with one arm.
A security guard is reported to have seen a pair of red slippers walking down the stairs with
no one in them!
