We have had three meetings here - what a great place! It is one of the oldest operating inns
in Pennsylvania and was once a popular stop on the way to and from
Philadelphia and the surrounding towns.
Downstairs they have a restaurant and bar and upstairs are private dining rooms.
The inn is said to have three ghosts. When we arrived at the inn the first time, we weren't really
sure of who and what the nature of the ghosts were. The staff there that night didn't seem to know either.
They did allow us to go upstairs and explore. There was one room in particular that we felt uncomfortable
in.
In this room, there was a very eerie kind of feeling. I felt strongly that there was the spirit of
a woman there. At this point, I had only heard about the spirit of an old man, so I was
surprised that I was sensing a woman. She seemed to be in great distress and screaming or crying.
Nothing anomalous showed up in any of the photos, and recording there while the bar is open
is pointless,as the noise from the bar drifts right up to that room.
I felt that we should enter the room and shut the door and turn the lights off. We did this, and nothing
happened. Then we tried to leave the room. We couldn't get out. The door would not budge even though
it has no lock on it. Fortunately, one of the staff heard us turning the knob and let us out.
We chalked this up to an old doorknob until I happened to see a paper on the way
out of the inn (as I said, the staff were not overly informative) that described the history and the ghosts.
I was surprised to see that one of the ghosts listed there was of a woman who was murdered.
I have been unable to find out any more information about this woman.(Be patient, research is time consuming)
But most telling was farther down in the paragraph, "being unable to open an unlockable door can be
a frightening experience." Hmmmmm....the plot thickens.
The events reported at the inn are typical of most haunted places. Doors open and shut by themselves and
footsteps are
heard when there is no one about. The doorknob to the upstairs office has been known to rattle
on its own, too. There were also reports of an empty chair that could not be moved until it was "ready" to, and
another report of a chair spinning on one leg.
The other ghosts at the inn are that of a father and son, who have been seen outside the
inn. They are assumed to have been one-time caretakers of the property.
At our next meeting we decided to check the upstairs room out further. We noticed a very high level of EMF in the room, which
we traced to a generator outside the window. The level was high enough and steady enough that it could possibly
cause the feelings of unease that we experienced. We could not repeat the "locked door" incident, though. Maybe on a future visit...
