This was originally known as Walmarthon, and was constructed in the early twentieth century by Charles Walton. Before the estate was acquired by Mr. Walton, the grounds had been a hunting and camping site of the Lenape Indians. Eagle Road was built over an old Indian trail. Numerous arrowheads have been dug up on the property in its history The ghost reported here, however, is not that of an Indian, but of a little girl. She is believed to be the spirit of Suzanne Walton, the daughter of Charles. She died when she was seven years old.
The stories about the ghost are known to students and are passed on every year to the incoming freshmen. The administration, however, being what it is, does not acknowledge the presence of the ghost, so we are reduced to repeating oft-told tales... The ghost manifests as a cold breeze up and down the dormitory hallways. The breeze is cold enough to make one shiver. Some students have reported hearing screams from the upper closed-off section called the "tower room".
One story that has circulated is that a night watchman, whose job called for him to punch the time clock on the fourth floor of the building at the start if his midnight shift, had his key and chain lifted for him every night. It is said that he claimed to feel the cold air around him as the key and chain lifted up right in from of him.
Some of the legends claim that a knock is heard at a door, and when the occupant opens it, a child (or sometimes children) enter and dance around the room before leaving. The ghost of a young girl has been seen in varoius places on the campus. Shuffling footsteps, whimpering, and an occasional sob are heard from the closed-off third floor of Walton Hall.
None of these tales can be corroborated or proven. Charles Walton did have a daughter, Suzanne, who died at the age of 7, but she was not born at Walmarthon, did not die there, and probably spent very little of her life there.
This , ofcourse, raises the possibility that the ghost is not Suzy Walton. Another ghost, that of a middle-aged man, has been seen walking along the edge of Willow Lake, between Walmarthon and the Gate House. His identity is not known, but it is popularly thought that it is the ghost of Mr. Walton, unable to leave his beloved estate. Another tale has made the rounds concerning this seminary school. Some students have reported seeing a ghost foot. The foot is all that is seen, never any other part of the body. it appears as a large, white blob.
