This is the oldest inn along Route 40. It was built in 1794 and is one of the
longest operating taverns in the country. It was a popular overnight stop for
stagecoaches during the late 1700s and 1800s. Some prominent Americans have stayed
there, including presidents George Washington, Andrew Jackson and James Polk.
It has been reported that one of the rooms in this restaurant is very cold. I did not feel any unnatural cold,
but I did feel as if there were something in this room:
It is said that staff have seen
someone in the doorway of the cold room. They also have difficulty keeping
the door locked. Outside of the inn, mysterious footprints
leading away from the inn wall have appeared in the snow.
It was not snowing when I was there, so I couldn't experience this, but I did notice that
there is an old well directly to the right of the front door.
Old wells have often been points of interest in many hauntings I have investigated.
