Haunted Guildhall Catacombs

Derby, England

We entered the catacombs from the back room of The Tiger. Underneath the city of Derby is a maze of catacombs. (Pictured above) One of the tunnels used to link the police lock-up to the courts. Countless prisoners traveled these catacombs on their way to be tried and sentenced to execution, transportation to the colonies, or back to the prison. People who have occasion to be in the tunnels claim to hear footsteps. The list of those tried and justly or unjustly executed in Derby is quite long. It could be the footsteps of one of these prisoners. Oddly, the ghost seen is not that of a prisoner.

Workmen who were building the National Bank of Scotland, (which is now located next door and shares a common wall with The Tiger) reported seeing a young boy dressed in rags in the rubble during building, and afterwards during maintenance wotk in the tunnels. The workmen call out to him, thinking he has snuck in somehow, and then he disappears. Despite exhaustive searches on each occasion, no trace of the boy has ever been found.

Young boys who visit the Tiger pub and enter the back room, where the entrance to the catacombs is have seen the image of a young boy in the mirror located on the wall that adjoins the bank. Although we did not see the boy in the mirror or the catacombs, while our guide was speaking, I did see a white filmy globe emerge slowly from the left side of the mirror and then quickly pull back out of sight. The photo of the mirror revealed nothing, however. Perhaps we should return with a young male ghosthunter!
