Brandywine Battlefield

Contrary to popular belief, the Battle of Brandywine did not occur in the Battlefield Park. The actual battle occurred in Chadds Ford in the area around Birmingham Rd. There is a Quaker Meeting House there, The Birmingham Friends meeting House, which was standing at the time of the battle. The colonial soldiers used the stone fence around the meeting house to hold off the advancing British troops.

The Brandywine Battlefield website has a driving tour and map that explains the whole progress of the battle, and exactly where the battle occurred. It is very easy to follow, and I recommend it to anyone interested in investigating this area.

WARNING: Although there are no posted signs, most of these areas are private homes and property. Please be respectful of the trespassing laws. The Quaker Meeting House is still in use as a place of worship. Please be respectful of that as well. On one of my investigations, I was approached by a local police officer. He asked what we were doing, and I replied that we were taking pictures. He seemed satisfied with that, and went on his way. I am telling you this so that you know that if you are walking around there at night, the police will approach you. It is best to let them know ahead of time that you are going to be taking some pictures for a research project.

The cemetery seemed to give us the best results. We have heard strange noises, but haven't been able to capture any on an EVP recording yet.

We received this photo from Jim Clayton:

My wife took this pic of me leaving the Gilpin house. We did not notice the white speck until we go home looking at the pics on the camera. This was taken with a digital camera so there is no defect in the film. The first pic shows me leaving the house with a white blur in front of me. We believe it is a spirit who hasn't materialized in a shape yet. It was not visible to the naked eye. It is not a reflection that we know of and not a moth or butterfly. The second pic is the Gilpin house taken one second after the first pic and it isn't there. It has never appeared on any other photos taken with the camera.

This photo was taken immediately after:
