This house is located at the corner of Clark and Mary Streets. It was the French headquarters during the American Revolution and it's guest list includes such notables as George Washington and General Lafayette.
During a dinner party given by the current owners, the hostess noticed a man in old-fashioned blue dress walking past the door and up the front stairs. It was not a costume party, so any invited guest that had appeared in costume would have been noted. She assumed she had seen a ghost, but did not follow him up the stairs to find out!
The man who owned the house in the latter part of the 18th century was a very crooked politician. He built the house to show off his position and wealth, and unbeknownst to the Americans or the french who were quartered there, he worked as a spy for the British. This act of treason was not uncovered until 1931 when the letters were discovered at a university where he had sent them.
Guests have reported cold chills on the stairs and cold drafts when politics are discussed and/or argued about
