Fort Mifflin

Date of Investigation: April 28, 2001

Overnight Investigation with PGHA

I arrived at the Fort at just before 7 pm on April 28th. The prospect of spending a night at the haunted fort was exciting, and we were all ready to get started. We spent the night (yes, I stayed up all night) investigating various parts of the fort. One of the most haunted areas is said to be Casemate 5.

Casemate 5
Is that an orb? I can't say for sure, no corroborating activity or anomolous readings were noted.

Casemate 5 is said to be the cell where a convicted murderer was held until his execution. When he was brought out to the gallows, he had the customary sack over his head. Since that time a 'faceless man' has been reported near the entrance to the casemates. Women feel particularly uncomfortable in Casemate 5.

Fort Mifflin History Here...

However, I returned to casemate 5 alone, and sat on this bench for 45 minutes. Nothing happened there, but another non-corporeal resident of the fort decided to make her presence known.....

The Officers Quarters

The Officers Quarters is haunted by the Screaming Woman, aka Elizabeth. Screams have been reported coming from inside the fort when it was deserted. The night that I was there, a scream was heard coming from somewhere in the fort.

During our night here, I and a small group of people attempted to communicate with Elizabeth. We started in the other downstairs room, and when I called to her, the door to the room opened by itself.

When nothing else happened, we moved to the room pictured above and tried again to reach her, and asked her to give us a sign of her presence. Shortly after that request, I smelled a very strong, sweet perfume. As I announced this sensation, another member of our team showed us that the temperature in the room was slowly, steadily dropping. It dropped 8 degrees, and then, as the scent began to fade away, the temperature rose again.

Was it Elizabeth? I don't know. I know something was there, and I know that I will return to this site. Will she still be there? I will have to see...
