Admiral Farragut Inn
This historic inn is located at 31 Clarke Street in Newport.
The spirit of a French soldier has been reported here. During the American revolution and afterwards, French soldiers were quartered here and in other buildings on this street.
There is also a bathroom that seems to spook people. When the bath was being remodeled, the workman eventually refused to go in, stating that every time he entered, the hair on his arms would stand up.
During some research into the history of the property, the owner found that a woman had been waked in that room. Guests of the inn have reported a "not right" feeling right up to the present time!
As the story was related to me, the speaker concentrated on the story of the wake, since that is the most reported phenomena. Oddly enough, when he was talking about that, I felt that that "wasn't right", that that wasn't the spirit in residence here
I attempted to walk into the small parking lot to get a good picture of the inn and found that I absolutely could not walk in to the lot. As soon as I stepped under the trellis, I couldn't breathe! When I walked away, I felt fine. Every time I approached the trellis, it would become harder and harder to breathe until finally the speaker noticed somethig was going on with me.
I told him that I couldn't go in there because I couldn't breathe. He looked interested and continued with the story. he then began to tell the story of reports of the spirit of a French soldier in the inn. As soon as he said that, I had to leave; I could not listen anymore, and tears were pouring out of my eyes. I have no idea what the story of the soldier is, because I missed the whole thing!
